Storms
Stormy weather is our passion. We photograph it because we wish to express to others what we feel standing under the storm, whipped by the wind, and drenched by the rain. Add drama to your life, bring our storms into your home as art quality prints!
Farmland Tornado
Artist: Bill Reid
Prospect Valley, Colorado, tornado of June 19, 2018. This photogenic tornado occurred relatively early in the afternoon, and we were almost late for the show. Our Tempest Tours group started the day just up I-76 at Fort Morgan, and then dropped south to Limon for lunch. We should have headed southwest to Byers and Strasburg instead! The Arbys in Limon was busy and it took a little longer than normal to get food to all of the guests. We piled back into the vans once everyone had their food, and headed westward on I-70 to a couple of new storms that were moving eastward from the Denver area. The north storm looked better, and we headed north out of Strasburg to get close. The storm structure looked very good by now to our northwest, and soon a wall cloud and a funnel cloud were apparent...but we weren't close enough yet! We came to the end of our north option in the middle of nowhere, stopped, and the tornado event commenced immediately. The tornado was fabulously photogenic, a few miles to our north, and it lasted perhaps 7 minutes. This shot was with the 70-200mm lens at about 100mm.
