The Horse Head Nebula Complex - Orion Constellation
Artist: Brian Morganti
The colorful Horse Head Nebula region (B33) can be found during the winter months in the constellation of Orion. The “horse head” itself is part of a very large emission and dark nebula complex that serves as a stellar nursery where stars are forming out of the dust and gas. Located about 1,500 light years away, this vast complex is the closest star forming region to our own solar system. These nebula are not visible to the naked eye and required 3.5 hours of exposure time to photograph through my 4” refractor telescope.
