Dusty Tornado – Simla, Colorado – June 4, 2015

With great southeast up-slope flow and plenty of adequate moisture this day looked like a good time to play the Palmer Divide between Limon and Colorado Springs east into the high plains of Colorado. I was rather confident there would be a nice supercell or two to chase, and maybe even a brief tornado...but had no idea I would be intercepting one of the most prolific tornado producing storms of my decades-long chase career! This dusty elephant trunk tornado was rapidly approaching the horse barn in the foreground. I had just moments to capture this image before needed to dive south out of harms way. It was just one of over a dozen tornadoes that I photographed during the late afternoon hours of June 4, 2015.
