Capitol
Artist: Bill Reid
Capitol, Montana tornado of June 28, 2018. This was the third of about six tornados by the same supercell. Shortly after the second one dissipated, we raced northeastward on Camp Crook Road between Albion and Capitol. A menacing wall cloud was rotating wildly, about 8 miles up the road, and soon a funnel cloud had touched down. This shot, with the wide-angle 15mm lens, was taken about halfway through the tornado's 20-minute lifespan around the time it was strongest. The tornado narrowly missed the little hamlet of Capitol, now a near ghost town.
